I just found the following posted on the EasyCap website, it may explain why some people have had problems using EasyCap; "Shenzhen Forward Video Co., Ltd. is the leader manufactory of USB Video Capture solutions, the series of brand "EasyCAP" USB Video Capture products were researched, developed and promoted by our company, highly appreciated by numerous consumers. But there were many inglorious companies copied plenty of illegal "EasyCAP" video capture. Due to the bad quality of the copied ones, large numbers of consumbers faced many problems when they use the copied models of "EasyCAP", then results in the credit of the brand of "EasyCAP" down and down rapidly. We express our reget for the consumbers who have bought the copied models, and we also registered and used our new Brand "EzCAP",at the same time, we have stopped producing all of the series of "EasyCAP" products, Then it shows if any "EasyCAP" products sold in the market are copied models, To Guarantee your interest, Please do learn "EzCAP" NOT "EasyCAP", and to guarantee the shop where you buy sold products produced from our company, It is because there may be some illegal person will copy "EzCAP" again, to avoid the copied models, if you find someone who copies our products, please do contact with us in a short time, we will accuse the illegal person of this."

I didn't realize they are two different things.
Are they made by the same company? Is one better than the other?

After a certian date, the company who makes the "real" ones (I can't remeber the name at the moment) swiched from EasyCap to EzCap to try and distinguish it from the fakes. All the new official ones are EzCap, but some fraudulent ones may have been updated with the new name.

Hi, Anyone know if the EZ Grabber being sold on Amazon is the same as the EZCap? Or made by the same company? It seems to get pretty good reviews. Also, I am in the USA. Is there a good source there? Hate to pay for international shipping. Thanks!

After further research, EZCap is the new name Forward Video is using (as previously mentioned). ClimaxDigital doesn't ship to the US. And they also sell the EZ Grabber made by Geniatech. It only takes 3 ICs to make this USB device and any company can buy these and make the device. Some are, e.g., Geniatech, Diamond, Pinnacle, StarTech, KWorld, Elgato, etc. The software they provide is different and the reviews are similar. EZCap seems to be ahead of the pack, using the latest chips (Empia 2861). Most of the sellers of the cheaper EasyCap on ebay i have checked are selling the older models, e.g. DC60, which have limititations (no MAC, Vista, 64bit, Xbox, etc) and lower quality.

A couple other things I learned about the real EasyCaps is that they have gold-plated RCA plugs (not nickel), and the print on the device is silver (not white).

So is EzCAP the real version or is EasyCAP the real version? I bought mine from Amazon This is similar to the package I got. I'm just kinda confused.

There are "real" EasyCap versions and this looks like the legit version, but an older one. It does have some limitations as mentioned above. I haven't used it though. I have the newest "EasyCap" version with the Empia 2861 chip, although not the EZCap, and it is working great on my desktop and laptop using Videostudio 10 SE.

This is DC60+, real support Vista, 2860 IC solutions But this is not, it is DC60 1186 IC Solutions Of course, this is just for appearance, if you want to recognize, you can see in PC it is different sign: 2861 or 1186STK. DC60+ with 2861 2860 IC is the best ones, better functions.

Mine was bought from BuyBigThing on Ebay, £8.99. Doesn't have Easycap printed on it. Came bubble wrapped and works fine!

This is a comment, and perhaps a warning to others.
I was given an Easycap (DC60+) as a gift, recently purchased from USB Easycap Tech Co Ltd, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. I don't know if it is fake or not, but I can say that it does not work on three computers I have run it on, one with Windows 7 64 bit and the other two with Windows XP SP3 (32 bit). The composite lead gives no signal at all and the sound is patchy, and comes and goes. I have tried the various driver and software tips given on this website, and even had a technician from Easycap try to fix the problem remotely, but he too was unable to fix it.
Unfortunately this company, whoever they are, does not really support the product. They expect me to prove that it is broken by shipping it back to them in China at my cost. The cost of doing so would make the device too expensive. I find it strange that they ship a bad product and place the onus on the customer to prove it is broken before giving replacing it. I wish these guys were concerned about poor impression this sort of behaviour leaves on buyers.

This is my first post here and I want to share my experiance so others don't waste their time (and money) like i did. I too have been burnt by buying a fake. I spent about 5 days trying to get the bloody thing to work. Downloaded drivers, trawled youtube and forums. I had a grainy picture and sound that was always out of sinc. Thought i had got a bargain from ebay direct from China. All I got was a lot of wasted time and grief. The plus side is, I now know a little bit more about them. Be very wary. If it says easycap, it is a fake. Only buy if you can see a picture and it is clearly stamped on the body, "ezcap". To give others an idea of how many fakes there are out there, take a look on alibaba.com. Quite shocking. http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?SearchText=easycap&Country=&IndexArea=product_en&ssk=yA quick check on ebay for DC60+ shows people selling this supposed model with some say they are being shipped with ulead version 8.0. This version does not work on vista never mind windows 7 so i'm sure as hell the unit will not work either! I don't think it will be too long until the fakers start to stamp "ezcap" on their counterfeits if they haven't already done so. I think this is maybe why the manufacturer has completely changed the shape of their newest model. ezcap116. That's what I bought here in the UK. Comes in a nice retail box and a 12 month warranty. I have been using to transfer old camcorder footage and my son has been uploading loads of his 360 game play to youtube. (In colour!) I still had problems with this one though. (USB sound) All great on my XP machine but distorted sound on Vista. Fixed in 2 mins by buying a £2.00 audio L+R female splitter to 3.5 jack. Connected the vido out to the ezcap and the audio outs to the splitter and inserted into the "line in" on the sound card. Sorted If you are a Windows user and want to save yourself a lot of grief, purchase the ezcap116, it will also come with arcsoft showbiz dvd2 and blaze video. (both full versions) .

I've taken the plunge and have ordered a large quantity of ezcap116 from the makers. They will be in stock Thurs 18th. If you want the genuine article with a full 12 months warranty, see my sig at the bottom. After lengthy emails with the manufacturers I am not stocking the DC60+ as this is going to be obsolete. The 116 is the new DC60+ No matter where you purchase from, make sure it comes in the box below, If it doesn't, it will be a fake.
