Hi,

I've got an easycap connected to my cable box via scart to rca, then plugged into my laptop running Windows 7.

I am having no problems with video, but the audio is distorted? I'm pretty sure the drivers are all installed O.K as there doesn't seem to be a driver issue.

I've been doing sample 5-10 second files and the audio is distorted no matter what settings I try with Ulead software.

I think I have onboard audio with my laptop (Dell Vostro 1500) maybe that is the issue?

I'm in Australia.

right click on the sound icon (little speaker) in the system tray near the time and go to recording devices. Do you see "usb audio" there?

Yes but it is using it as a microphone? Not digital audio line in? It sounds like it's being recorded by a microphone.

I think the problem may be the onboard audio and generic driver on the laptop. There is no sound card in the laptop.

I'll try it on an old desktop with Windows XP and see what happens there.

Try this.
Right click on microphone > properties > levels

reduce the level to either 1 or zero.

I tried that but it didn't make a difference. I tried everything with the laptop.

And I've now tried everything to get it running on my desktop PC (Windows XP) and I couldn't get any audio at all.

I think I might have one of the duds/counterfeit ones. A mate of mine has one and it just "worked" when he plugged it in and set up.

My first was a fake and I spent days trying to get it to work. I gave up in the end. It just isn't worth the man hours.

How much did yours cost?
How many hours have you spent on it?

In all honesty, if you have now tried it on 2 different spec systems and it still won't work, I don't think it ever will. Can you send it back?

If you take a good look at this forum, 99% of all posts are to do with "easycap" and not "ezcap". That's because there are so many manufacturers in China pumping them out, you don't know what you are getting and they all use the same retail packaging!  Grin

Bottom line is they are all counterfeit. So it's pot luck on what you actually get. Are you buying a copy? or a copy of a copy?

.

It was a fake mate. I got a new one like the one in the link in your signature. Installed the drivers, plugged it in and it worked fine.

Not worth trying to send the fake one back for a refund.

Thanks for your help.
