Hi can anyone help? I'm trying to record from VHS to PC using the Easycap DC60 model. The problem is that it records for just 6-7 minutes and then the whole computer freezes and I have to do a force-restart of the machine. I've tried a variety of different recording formats (e.g. DVD) but there's very little difference. I want to record a 2 hour video. I have a Pentium IV 3.06 GHz processor with 1 Gb of RAM, am running Windows XP SP3 and have 20 Gb of free disk space on the target hard disk. Thanks.

Just a thought, but does your monitor normally turn itself off after 6 or 7 minutes when not in use?
This could be the cause of the problem.

No it doesn't. I don't think that the screen is the problem. Thanks though...

This sound like you maybe runing out of drive space.

I'm presuming you are using ulead?
Have you got it set to AVI?

If you have, this is your problem. AVI can eat up 20gb in 6 mins.

Set it to "dvd" You will get 1hrs worth using approx 4gb

Mine stops after 6 to 9 minutes and just says unexpected error.  No solution yet.

I have a similar problem.  I get the unexpected problem encountered after 13mins 14 secs.  This is consistent on any VHS tape that I try to copy.  If I cancel the video capture and then restart it, after 13mins 14secs it displays the error message.  I am outputting to mpeg format.

How much space have you got on your hard drive?

Also, do a test.
Can you hook up a dvd palyer to it? If you can, try it and see if it stops at the same time. (I bet it does)

Next,
Try different capture software. (free and good)

Basic question here: If my recording stops each time I try to record a VHS tape from my VCR; and  it stops recording at exactly the same time each time; and I have ample space on my hdd; and my monitor is not at all an issue; and yet the video plays right thru when running on the VCR itself; can anyone suggest what might be amiss using the software (Ulead VideoStudio) supplied with Easy Cap? I would dearly appreciate a clear answer here. Thank you.

I should add I am trying to run a 1 hour and 30 VHS tape and the software/Easy cap stops recording after approximately 12 minutes each time. Does the software/Easy cap run in clips supposing you would join the clips? Is it not capable of running the entire tape in one coherent whole as opposed to periodic 'clips'?

I take it you are using Ulead?
It should be able to record that in one go. It just won't let you burn it to disk without splitting.

Just in case you have it set to AVI, change it to mpeg-2 and try again. Also try a different vhs tape (just in case)

Still doing the same?
Let's try different software (free and good) to see if it will work, or at least throw back a better error message.

Use the download link on the first paragraph on the page.

Thanks for the prompt reply. No problem in it not letting me burn without splitting since I plan to format and burn with another app. I just want the thing to record in, as you say, one go. I'm using Ulead and had forgone avi in favor of mpeg-2. I like the idea of using another vhs as a...what's the word?...well, test. And the idea of using alternative software (even tho I've run into most of the ones mentioned and they either had a hefty learning curve or were half-activated demos, in spite of claims.) But I will go that route and get back to you. Again, my thanks.
