Hello eveybody,

You Tube has now got HD capability, so I have uploaded a HD video that I recorded off my PS3 using EasyCap. This shows the quality that it is possible to achieve with EasyCap and using the knowledge gained from a little bit of time and effort put into researching the basics of video capture/editing!

You may need a fairly high spec PC to stream HD content off You Tube!

To see this video in full quality, click on the player window (to go to You Tube), then watch it in 720p! Shocked

Here is some detailed info on how this video was created.

The PS3 was set to output video and audio via the AV cable, I also chose RGB, Standard PAL 576i and the 16:9 picture aspect ratio in Display Settings. The EasyCap 108 DC60 was set to 720 x 576 (which is 4:3), colour space RGB24* and Frame Rate at 25fps. I then captured the video as an AVI file using AMCap 9.02 (free to download from the EasyCap website). The resulting file was about 3gb and when played back on Windows Media Player the video looked squashed horizontaly, this was done on purpose.

I then imported the AVI file into MPEG Streamclip (also freeware) and trimmed the start and end. I exported it as an MPEG 4 using the Advanced Video Codec H.264 and full quality AAC sound at 256mbps/44.1Khz. I limited the data rate to 5.5Mbps which compressed the file from 3gb to about 68Mb! It was also upscaled/deinterlaced to 1280 x 720p thus restoring the picture aspect ratio and enabling HD playback on You Tube. I turned on B-Frames, Multipass and every other feature that would give the best quality result, the file took 1 hour and 40 mins to render maxing out my P4 2.8Ghz CPU!

I hope this will inspire you all to continue to get the best out of the exellent EasyCap USB video capture device.

*I had to use RGB24 as MPEG Streamclip runs on QuickTime which will not decode video in an AVI container captured in YUY2 or UYVY, I would have prefered to use YUY2 as it uses about a third less space and looks a little better to.

It all depends on what software you are using to capture with! It should be able to be accessed from one of the many menus, time to read the manual!
