Hi Guys, feeling very frustrated at the moment, I just purchased easycap 60, and Ulead videostudio 11, and I cant do anything with it, I am running windows 7, I want to capture some old VHs movies, I have the video conected to the tv by co-axal, and connected to the easycap by s-video, the video is playing perfect through the tv, when I open videostudio and click capture firstly I get unable to switch to capture mode, then when it fully loads I get the 4 boxes in the source box I have, usb2 ATV, realtek2831u bda filter, another analogue tv or source, HDV source, the next box is format which is always on mpeg, the option button and the capture video button are both greyed out, everytime I try to change the source button to anything else it hangs for a sec then reverts to realtek2831u bda filter, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Easycaps are renowned for not working with S-video but sometimes you get lucky.

Ulead (any version) is not compatible with windows 7. Only XP/Vista so let's try software we know that does work. (free and good)

Debut
http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/

When you go to the site, don't click on the links on the right hand side.
There is a download link for non commercial customers in the first paragraph
on the page.

Download and open.
Clcik on "device" at the top.
When the screen changes, click on "options" at the top and then click on "device inputs"
In the "inputs" box, select S-video and click on apply.

Do you get a picture?

OK, this sounds like a silly question but just to make sure, ensure your easycap is plugged in before you start Debut

If you have, as I said, easycaps in general do not like S-video.
You need to buy a set of switchable scart to phono leads and set the scart to the "out" position.

The cheapest I have found is £2.19 inc delivery

Ok, but to be honest I have had to uninstall debut as it just keeps stalling my comp and I have to restart all the time, any other programs you can suggest.

You need to get exactly the same as i posted on the link above. You need a "switchable scart to phono" lead. This is the only lead that will work.

On the scart side, it has a little in/out switch.. You switch this to "out" so it forces the signal from your vhs player to your pc.

Debut:
I'm not sure why it is freezing. It must be some kind of conflict with your pc as it is normally very stable. Uninstall it and use videostudio pro 3. It is compatible with windows 7 and is a better program.

You will also be able to try your s-video lead with this program.

I don't have pro 3, but i'm sure it will be along the lines of SE version 10 but with a lot more features.
Install the program and reboot the pc
make sure your vhs player is powered on and plug in easycap to player and pc
open the program
Select capture, when the screen changes, click on "capture video"
When the screen changes select the format to "dvd"
You should see a small cogg that states "options" Click on it and select "MPEG settings"
make sure at the top it states "DVD PAL 720x576" If it does not, select it from the drop down menu.

Click again on the cogg again and select "input source" change it to s-video and make sure USB audio is also selected at the bottom and click on the box that states "preview audio with USB device"

Do you see a picture? If not, press play on the vhs player. Do you see a picture now?

If not, S-video is not going to work. When the new lead arrives, Do the same above again the next time you open video studio, but select "composite" instead of S-video

god this is driving me insane, I have connected the s-video lead again but now i get a message saying unable to switch to capture mode check if your video capture driver is working and I have reinstalled the drivers, the only format i can use is mpeg, in the source box it says, syntekSTK1150, realtek2831u bda filter, another analogue tv or source, HDV source, but every time I try and change it from realtek to Syntek, it changes for a few seconds but then reverts to realtek, the option button and the capture button are then greyed out, which source should it be on, thanks for your help and patience

The joys of easycap  Grin

I have seen this once before and it was a driver issue. Go into device manager, and right click on any drivers you see that also use the usb port. (printer, camera, tv dongle etc, and select "disable" on them all.

Reboot the pc and see what happens. Still the same message? reinstall the driver for the easycap again and reboot the pc.

Still the same message?

No differrent message now, it says "either no video capture driver installed in this system or no video device is connected, which is both wrong

If there is such a thing, that is a better error message.

I'm hoping it is the second statement "no video device is connected". I'm hoping this is the s-video lead.
(you have got it set to s-video?)

If so, wait until the scart in/out lead comes, connect it, set the switch to "out", change the setting from s-video to copmposite and prey to the easycap god.

Sadly I have been using the scart lead it arrived this morning, here is something worth mentioning, i have 2 driver files on my desktop, if I install the DC60 one I get the previous error message, if I install the one called usb avctb i get this error message  failed to intialize video capture plug in another program may be using it or the file has been removed  open driver failed cannot create the video capture filter" also when i try the differrent drivers the name of the capture divice changes from syntekSTK1150 to usb2 atv, do you know which driver i should be using, the reason i have 2 is because 2 sites said they had the latest drivers
