Finally got around to transfering my first vhs tape to dvd. I have been using a dvd-rw so I can erase my mistakes. I was pleasantly surprised how great this little device is. The video quality is very good but the sound has this annoying static buzz. It makes the dialog hard to understand. At first I thought maybe it was my old video tapes but when I play them directly on the vcr they seem fine. I can't hear the audio during preview but wasn't concerned because I had read on the forum that the sound is present. Tried to update the USB audio driver but the search says it is up to date. I am using a Toshiba Laptop running Vista Home Premium 32bit and a DC60 easycap. I don't know how to correct this sound thing. I thought maybe new RCA cables (gold tip??). I have been capturing in Mono since my VCR has only one audio post. Is this correct? I thought about using my other vcr which is stereo. Would that make any difference? Also I noticed the post about the 3.5mm to RCA adapter. Would that help with sound quality? Is the input to soundcard the same as the mic port? Sorry to ask so many questions but I am anxious to get started on this project. Any help would be appreciated.

Just wanted to post that I was able to get the sound problem fixed. Thought I would share what worked for me. I hooked up a stereo vcr instead of my one post mono version. Used new RCA Composite Cables with male ends 2 audio & 1 video. I went to radio shack and bought an audio y cable with 2 female audio ends and a 3.5mm male plug(about $4.99 US). Had seen this advice on some other posts. I disabled the USB Audio through Device Manager. Plugged the y audio cable jack into my microphone port of my laptop (running Vista Home Premium 32bit) and attached the 2 audio cables. Went through the usual set up steps for settings, etc. Recaptured the same film I had been trying to do, burned a DVD without any frills. Put it in my DVD player and the sound was crystal clear and loud. In fact the sound about blasted me away. Still can't hear sound when previewing capture but who cares. I hope this will maybe help someone else.

Hi buzzwood,
Glad you managed to fix the sound problem,I have the same problem now,you said :"Plugged the y audio cable jack into my microphone port of my laptop (running Vista Home Premium 32bit) and attached the 2 audio cables".
Where did you attach the 2 audio cables? into the audio out of your VCR? or the audio of your EasyCap?
Thanks in advance

Sorry I didn't see your post right away. The 2 Audio connections on the Y adaptor connect to the Audio of my composite RCA cables (which are then connected to my Audio Out Posts of my VCR). You are basically bypassing the Easycap Audio and using your laptop microphone as your Audio source. I was premature in saying the sound issue was completely solved however. Some of the captured VHS movies are having a echoey tinney sound (if there are such words). I have turned the mic volume way down but the problem is still there. The mic seems to exaggerate background noises in the VHS tape. Things like an elevator moving in the film becomes a "whomp whomp whomp" sound that makes the dialoge hard to hear. So I may be back to square one.
