I still have not recorded a final version of a VHS to DVD. I posted that I thought the mic input (via Y connector) was the answer. But I got tinney robatic sound. Some VHS Tapes are better than others. I hooked up an old Windows XP Laptop (but only 512mb RAM and 80 GB hard drive) (but also with a different Mic) got great sound but now the video is jerky (drops frames). Not enough to be unuseable but enough to be annoying. So I either use my Vista Bit 32 Home Premium laptop and get Tinney Sound (mainly background sounds - like the whomp whomp whomp of an elevator moving) or my XP Laptop to get Jerky Video. Even tried a different Capture Software but the problems were worse than with Ulead. Please if anyone has any suggestions about settings, etc. I am desperate to get this project going. I still think this is an amazing Gadget, and I'm sure there has to be a solution.

What is the on-board sound card? Is it Realtek? there is an sound issue with all onboards that have realtek and unfortunately, i know of no fix.

Yes, unfortunately it is Realtek. The XP machine it is not. But, the XP machine doesn't have a dvd burner. So what I have tried is to run the capture on the XP machine (only with 512 Ram) and put it into a Network Shared File. Then I can pick it up with the Vista Machine and burn it to DVD. But what happens on the XP Capture is dropped frames which makes the Video slightly jumpy. Is there anything I am not thinking of to correct this??? What is weird is that while the video is jumpy (say someone moves across room) the audio is a perfect match for what is going on. I am not sure I understand this.

Sadly, it purely down to your RAM. It cannot handle what it is being asked to process.
