So, I got my EasyCAP USB 2.0 Video capture device yesterday and have been playing with it for a day.

The video quality is great, but the sound is horrible. I'm running Windows 7 x64, and in the audio mixer, the device is set to '1 channel, 8 bit, 8000 Hz (Lowest Quality)'. I cannot change it to get any better sound quality, is there anything I can do? The driver installed right off of the CD that was included.

The quick fix is to bypass the usb audio altogether and purchase a "3.5mm Stereo Jack to 2 x RCA" adaptor. You can get them for 61p inc delivery on Amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/WE11130-Adaptor-3-5mm-stereo-sockets/dp/B000L9C3GY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271193386&sr=8-5

Take the 2 audio outs from your games console/vhs player and insert into the adaptor. Insert the adaptor into the "line In" input at the back of your pc on the sound card. This leaves just the yellow video lead going from the games console/vhs player into the ezcap.

Change the audio settings in your capture software from "usb audio device" to "line in"

I shouldn't have to, not to mention I'm doing this on a laptop which has no line-in (the reason I bought the EasyCAP)

You might have to. All easycaps are counterfeits and there are some real bad ones out there.

Was it a DC60 or DC60+ you purchased? Can you give us a link to where you bought?

OK. First off it might just be the software it came with. Ulead is not compatible with windows 7.

Try different software.

Debut - xp/vista/windows 7
http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html

Use the download link on the first paragraph to get the free version. Once you install, open it and click on "device" at the top.

....................

If sound is still the same, try the only fix we know of:
http://forum.easycap.co.uk/index.php/topic,520.0.html

....................

If that does not work, send it back for a refund, spend a bit extra and get an EzCAP116. You will not have any issues with it. (Comes with better software)

Yeah, I'm not using Ulead to record, this is under Windows' settings, not Ulead's. I'll try the software anyway. Second of all, the video that you linked only takes care of the VIDEO driver part, NOT the audio. And if it's not compatible then why is the driver on the disc signed by Microsoft?

It's like that because of the 'Generic USB Audio' Driver, not with the Video driver you linked to. Make a driver for Windows 7. ._.

I cannot speak for easycaps, but i can for EzCap's. With EzCAP's you select Windows 7 own generic USB driver for the audio.

The problem being there are so many variations of the same "easycap". If you take a look at the forum where you purchased from, you will see even dealextreme do not know what they are getting from shipment to shipment. They all look the same, come in the same packaging but you are getting posters that encounter different models as they plug them in and a different driver names pop up.

Somebody has made drivers for windows 7 and it works for theirs. Question is, will it work on yours?

Also .........

What is the difference between the one you have purchased
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11267

and this one?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5707

Which one is the "real" easycap?

I don't know, I don't work for DealExtreme. This thing seems pretty 'legit' to me, at least high quality craftsmanship, doesn't feel flimsy at all.

Hi,
It indeed seems there are some bad clones out there regarding audio capturing.
I bought my EasyCAP faily cheap, strangely there was no Ulead video capture on the yellow cd but an Honestech proggy that captures video/audio in maximum 4G blocks.
Anyway I have Ulead now installed and started capturing.
My EasyCAP seems to pick up a bad 50Hz buzz.
Luckly you can select your mic source and by bypassing it and using an headset mic am am getting much better results, i have also tried to gab the sound with my audio PC card and that work great as well.
It will do it trick as I need only a couple of VHS tapes (mono sound anyway) to be captured.

Hope my solution helps maybe someone else.  Grin

Cheers,

Bruskii
