EasyCAP: VHS to DVD - no signal from VHS machine.

Hi All,

I have tried and tried and tried - honest injun!- before posting. All the advice has been clear - especially from some of the experienced member on the forum - it must be me 

Ok here goes:

* Easy Cap 108, Model DC60, CD ver 2.1c.
* PC is: Intel Dual core 5.5mhz, 4 GB ram, 599 GB HD (almost empty), Win XP Pro 32 bit.
* Video machine: Sanyo (NTSC/PAl) VHR M260 , only scart out - so I am using scart to RCA (red, white & yellow connectors) which connect to corresponding the Easy Cap leads.
* Tried Videostudio SE software that came with EasyCAP - no signal.
* Tried Amcap for Win Ver 9.2 - no signal.

What ever I try, I cannot seem to get a signal to capture on either ULead/Amcap software. Tried some of the suggestions re driver install/uninstall to no avail.

Help: 1. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to do something with the video channel settings (video on the channel settings has L1, no AV, or channel numbers)?
2. What would be the best way to capture the VHS tape and then put it onto DVD - can I compress as I capture?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi guys. Are you using a scart to rca that has an input/output switch? I was having the same problems until I purchased one. I switched to output and low and behold, all my problems disappeared. I think this has been mentioned many times throughout the forums.

am using s-video connections and have no picture but do have sound.its crazy this easycap is so tempremental. should I use scart - is it better than s-video.

Guys, I am using scart and get great quality from sky,dvd etc. I don't get any audio when in capture mode, but when I have completed my capture and play my files through media player, videolan etc. the sound is perfect.

Well, yesterday I tried to test the capture to see if the file gets audio. However, using the default settings from compression and saving to AVI I get a file with 1,25GB with 1 minute. Can't even do the buffering to play it.

What settings do you use for compression?

Are you using ulead?

When you are on the capture screen, Set "format" to "dvd"
Then click on options > input source and make sure "usb audio" is selcted. Then click the box that says "preview audio with usb device"

If you still dont get any audio when previewing, but you do hear the audio in playback, buy an audio L+R female splitter to 3.5 jack. Connect the audio outs to the splitter and insert into the "line in" on the sound card.

Yes, I'm using Ulead. However the sound is not a problem to me. I don't care to have no audio while capture VHS to PC.

You guys are really helping me 

Now, anyone can tell me which are the best configs to record the file? Obviously I need to compress what I capture but using which codec? All I want is to edit this file later (create some menus/scenes on it), burn a DVD and watch it in my Divx player
